If you have never ridden before or are new to Becky Jackson Horse Riding, then take a look at our FAQs below before getting in touch.

What do I need to know before my first lesson?

Yes, we hire hats for lessons, you will need your own boots, & gloves. All info will be sent to you upon booking your first lesson with us.

Riding hats can be purchased and professionally fitted from a local tack shop. Hat legislation changes, current standards are; PAS 015.

It is not essential to buy equipment for your first lesson but you do need to wear appropriate clothing.

If you do not own jodhpurs you can instead wear leggings or other close-fitting trousers or tracksuit bottoms, please do not wear baggy or loose-fitting trousers, shorts or skirts!

Wear a top that is appropriate for the weather, we recommend no strappy tops.

Our arena is outdoors, so do come prepared with adequate clothing for the weather, a waterproof warm jacket will be required in the winter as we ride in all weathers! Jackets must be done-up whilst riding.

You will also need to wear gloves to comply with our COVID rules.

If you do not own riding boots you can instead wear a pair of strong, sturdy shoes ideally with a small heel. The small heel will help to prevent the riders feet from slipping through the stirrups.

Shoes or preferably boots with a small heel, like jodhpur boots or wellies. We are unable to let people ride in trainers or flat soled shoes.

Back protectors are not essential when riding at Becky Jackson Horse Riding but you may choose to purchase one.

We are unable to take children below the age of 5 for lessons and recommend younger children start with a 30 minute lesson.

The upper weight limit for riders is 14 stone.

General questions

All of our instructors are qualified with relevant UKCC, BHS or ABRS certification and training.

Although our arena is outdoors, riding lessons go ahead whatever the weather, so ensure you or your child are wearing clothing appropriate to the time of year / current weather conditions.

If for any reason we deem it is not safe to ride due to the weather, we will conduct stable management lessons, teaching horse care skills in a dry, indoor environment.

To avoid being charged, please cancel lessons with more than 24 hours notice as this gives us time to refill the space.

If a lesson is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice you will need to pay for the cost for the lesson.

We aim for a max of 6 in the majority of our lessons to ensure quality lessons for our riders, as well as safety.
