Horse welfare

Welfare assessments

When we are assessed by West Suffolk County Council, they are accompanied by a vet and between them checking we have the skills, competence and facilities to ensure our horses are correctly managed and properly cared for.

As part of our welfare assessments, we have to show for each horse in our care they:

  • Have a suitable environment to live in
  • Have a healthy diet (including fresh clean water)
  • Are able to behave normally
  • Have appropriate company
  • Are protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease
  • Have correctly fitted tack
